Answer on Trenchless Technology By Mr. Vipin Gupta
Question 1:
What are the Trenchless Technology Methods?
Answer

Few Methods are as follows:

  1. Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
  2. Auger Boring
  3. Pipe Jacking
  4. Pipe Ramming
  5. Laser Guided Pipe Jacking
  6. Laser Guided Tunneling (TBM)
  7. Micro tunneling
  8. Moling
  9. Pipe Bursting

Question 2:
What is the difference between Trenchless technology & other technologies? Are they cost effective?
Answer
Trenchless technology,  in compression of conventional method are Environment friendly, faster, and depending upon quantum of work or site locations/ working difficulties they are cost effective.

Question 3: What is HDD?
Answer

HDD is a Trenchless construction technique, which uses guided drilling for creating an arc profile. This technique is used for drilling long distances such as under rivers, lagoons, or highly urbanized areas. The process involves three main stages: drilling of a pilot hole, pilot hole enlargement, and pullback installation of the carrier pipe.

Question 4: Can we Drill Rock with the help of HDD technique?
Answer

Almost all type of Rocks are drillable, the only end condition would be that you use different tooling attachments (drilling tools fixed at the drill head) with the HDD rig.

Question 5: What Type of Equipment are used for doing job by HDD method?
Answer

It is done by Drilling rig spread. This spread consists of Horizontal Directional Drilling Rig, Mud Pump, Mud Mixing System, Drill Pipes, Non – Magnetic Drill pipe, Reamers, Locating Systems, Reamers, Sonde housing / Jet Bit  and other support tooling.

Question 6: What is the use of HDD?
Answer
HDD is becoming a preferred practice for installing pipelines, cables, water and sewer lines, horizontal environmental and potable wells, and other infrastructural elements. The major advantage is the combined speed and reliability of the installation with minimal environmental impact.
